Last weekend of June

A medieval atmosphere is recreated in the Borgo, Canneti, Castello and Prato quarters to commemorate Emperor Frederick the 1st, known as Barbarossa, meeting Pope Adrian IV's papal emissaries in 1155.

San Quirico celebrates this event with shows, period costume parades, flag throwing and archery competitions in the Horti Leonini Gardens to choose
the winner of the much-prized Brocche dell'lmperatore.

The festival starts with the Quarters drawing lots for the challenges. The Quarters celebrate the Mass and flag throwers perform in the piazza, followed by a historical re-enactment in the Collegiate church yard.

The Grand Finale features archery and flag challenges in the Horti Leonini gardens, followed by celebrations in thé winning quarters.
