Bolsena (Viterbo) - Mysteries of Santa Cristina (July 23rd-24th)

On July 23rd at 10:00 pm a religious procession with the statue of the martyr starts from the Basilica crossing the historical city center of Bolsena.

Along the way, in the town's squares,  has been ercted small stages where younger citizens in typical costume pose in the tableaux representing the Saint's martyrdom.

The day after (July 24), at 10:00 a.m. the procession with the statue comes back to the Basilica and during the stops the sames scenes are replicated.

Usually the following scenes take places:   The cutting of breasts; the lake; the wheel; the prison; the demons; the flagellation; the serpents; the cutting of tongue; the arrows; the death; the glory.

The feast continues in the afternoon with spectacles and ends with spectacular fireworks over the lake.
