Orvieto is situated in Central Italy, between the
cities of Rome, Assisi and Siena, corner between three regions, Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany. Orvieto was an Etruscan City and had great importance
in medieval times. Nowadays, Orvieto is an extraordinary artistic and cultural center,
rich in monuments and places to visit. The City is perched on
a tufa rock, 325 mtrs high, overlooking the Paglia river valley.

: Built in 1290 bc. is one of the masterpieces of Italian
gothic architecture. Numerous works of art. ( An inside chapel holds Signorelli's Apocalypse frescoes ). There are no

The Church of San Giovenale: Romanesque - 1200 bc. - Rich interior with votive frescos and
works of art.

San Domenico: The church preserves notable works of art, such as a beautiful 14th
century wooden crucifix attributed to a follower of G. Pisano. Several paintings of Umbrian school, such as the fresco of
"Crucifixion with the Virgin and St. John". The "Funerary monument of the French Cardinal De Braye by the
great sculptor Arnolfo Di Cambio, is the most important work preserved here.

Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo: Very fine Romanesque-Gothic building, on which particular
beauty is conferred by the warm golden colour assumed over the centuries by the tufa with which it is entirely
built.

"Faina" Civic Museum: Interesting collection of Etruscan and Greek objects - It
preserves the "Venere" of Cannicella, a marmoreous greek statue dating back to
6th century bc. - Pieces of

Palazzo "Soliano": Seat of "Opera del Duomo" Museum, it preserves
works of Simone Martini, Luca Signorelli and Andrea Pisano's sculptures. On the ground floor is the "Emilio Greco" Museum.

St. Patrick's Well: Within all
Orvieto's attractive also a special mention to the Pozzo di San Patrizio
(Saint Patrick's well), by Antonio da Sangallo, a stately work of hydraulic engineering
built in the period 1527-1537, to assure water
for the city during the wars and states of emergency. The double
helix staircase will let you walk down into the well (It is 62 meters
deep and almost 13 meters in diameter, 248 steps for each ramp) and come
back up again without retracing your steps.

Torre del Moro: A medieval tower 42 mtrs high, rising from the centre of Orvieto. Visitors will be rewarded with a wonderful view from the top.

Etruscan necropolis of "Crocefisso
del Tufo": 6th century bc.- It shows
many tombs with etruscan writing. - Of particular interest for its regular urban layout. - Open 9.00 a.m. - 19.00 p.m.

exhibition for professional photographers. Orvieto Fotografia takes
place early in March to the end of the month each year. More than 40 National
and International speakers, live demonstrations, hands on workshops,
photographic exhibitions, book and model competitions, great fun nights,
a welcome concert and a gala dinner honouring the best food and drinks
Italy can offer; a rare opportunity for photographers from different
backgrounds and different countries to meet, discuss and exchange
information and work experiences, all in the magnificent atmosphere
of one of Italy’s most fascinating cities, enriched by the rich taste of
