Lake Bolsena Vacation Rentals, Apartments and flats on the shore of Lake Bolsena: Arlena Farmhouse - [ Map ]

Farmhouse Arlena

The Farm, which covers about 9 hectares (just over 22 acres), is centered around an ancient stone farmhouse dating

back to 1850 with attached rural buildings. It is located just 4 km from Bolsena center, province of Viterbo, at Km

108,150 of provincial road SS 2 Cassia, roughly 100 km north of Rome and 100 km south of Siena. The complex has

been restored into 8 single and double-room  vacation apartments, each with a bathroom and cooking corner, able

to accommodate from 2 to 5 people.  An ample portico, with a beautiful view on the lake, is at  disposal of every

apartment for outdoor dining and relaxing.  There is also refreshment service.

The surrounding fields, extending to the edge of the lake, are covered mostly by a plantation of kiwis.  A 300-meter avenue crosses the orchard and accompanies you directly to the quiet of the lake.

There you will be welcomed by a stretch of lawn and beach equipped for bathing, where your privacy is assured by the impenetrability of the adjacent reeds.

A splendid "ontano" (alder), a typical lake tree, sinks its roots directly in the water and acts as a frame for this suggestive angle of the lake.

Excursions by canoe along the reeds will allow you to observe herons, "garzette", "germani", "folaghe" and even swans that sometimes nest in our lake. On request, we can organize informal meals directly on the beach.

ARCHEOLOGICAL TOURS - CULTURAL ITINERARIES

You cannot stay in Bolsena without making trips to the surrounding areas. Its location allows you to take one-day trips to the provinces of Viterbo, Siena, Perugia, Terni, as well as, obviously, Rome and Florence.
Just 20 km. away there is Orvieto with its Cathedral, incomparable and unique jewel of Gothic art, the Well of St. Patrizio, the Etruscan Necropolis and Museums. At a short distance away you'll find Todi, Deruta, Assisi and Gubbio as weell as you can easily reach Narni, Spoleto or Foligno.

Crossing the Tuscany border, right after Acquapendente, you will be able to visit the towns of Val of Orcia, S. Quirico, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza until reaching Siena. The visit to Civita di Bagnoregio (10 km from Bolsena) is very suggestive, with its medieval town and the extraordinary view on the "calanchi" (eroded cliffs).

From Montefiascone you can reach Viterbo, administrative center of the province, where it is obligatory to visit the medieval district, the Sanctuary of St. Rosa, the Papal Museums and Palace - splendid construction and symbol of the city, headquarters of the first and longest conclave in the history of the Popes of the Catholic Church.

Near Viterbo, widely known all over the world, are the princely residences of Bagnaia and Caprarola; magnificent abodes built in the second half of 1500 by the most important architects of the era to glorify the power of families like the Orsini and the Farnese. In the direction of La Quercia you will find the Sanctuary of the "Madonna di La Quercia", built by Giuliano and Anthony Sangallo, whose renaissance façade has in the three portals, three lunettes of Andrea della Robbia (1507). Also worthy of mention are the Park of the Monsters of Bomarzo, stone sculptures done at the end of the XVI century by Vicino Orsini, the Doria Pamphilj Palace in St. Martino al Cimino, the ancient town of Vitorchiano.
Amongst the cultural events available we can indicate the summer season of the Roman theatre of Ferento.
For those who want to enjoy the wellbeing of thermal waters, in just a few minutes by car from the farm, it is possible to reach the thermal centers of Viterbo, San Casciano dei Bagni, Bagno Vignoni and Saturnia.
There are numerous wine and gastronomic initiatives in the whole province of Viterbo with wine production and tasting offered by Est!Est!!Est!!! , Falesco and Aleatico and several possibilities of buying extra virgin olive oil.

The Etruscan part of Viterbo is rich with ruins of the past. The Necropolis and the National Etruscan Museum in Tarquinia, the Necropolis and Romanesque Churches of San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore in Tuscania, the Necropolis of Pianezze in Grotte di Castro, the Necropolis of Norchia in Vetralla, the Necropolis, the Castle and the Bridge of the Abbey in Vulci. An important point is the recent reopening of the archaeological and nature park of Vulci, 130 hectares (about 320 acres) of Etruscan and Romans ruins with the presence of protected species, located between Montalto of Castro and Canino, very near a WWF Oasis. Always in Tuscany there is the Necropolis of Sovana, important for the grave of Ildebrando.
